 Humphrey's Tales
January 2014

Let me introduce myself:

My name is Humphrey and I was born in 1993 in Flagstaff, Arizona USA.

Currently living in Cottonwood, AZ, with my Mom and Dad, by the way of Florida and Hawaii; don't ask!

Explained through my stories?

Maybe....

You'll just have to follow my tales each month.

THE CANYON'S INTRODUCTION

Continuing from last month's article, I wanted to share another location in Arizona where I took my friend Bucket. He is from Australia and came to visit me.

Of course we had to visit one of the seven wonders of the world; The Grand Canyon.

On the way to the Canyon we drove through Flagstaff, Arizona.  Part of the town is located on famous "Route 66" so we sang "we got our kicks on Route 66" when we drove on that part of town.

Our first stop was to get a photo together.

I pointed out to Bucket that two houses down the side street was where I was born.

The town of Flagstaff named a street after me.

Yaa-hoo!

Or, at least that's what I told Bucket.

I had to jump really high to show him my street sign!

Wheee, that was fun!

Exhausting too but I made it!

Arriving at the Canyon we stopped at the Visitor's Center so Bucket could get some helpful information on how to hike into the Canyon safely.

On the way to the trail we met Smokey the Bear who was in charge of protecting the surrounding forest.

We shared a few bear hugs and he promised to put out trail markers so we wouldn't get lost.

We promised not to play with matches or to build a fire.

Just before we arrive at the trail, I lost Bucket; well

at least for a moment.

Panic!

After I checked the bottom of this bin, he was not there,

I looked out the window and there was Bucket waving at me as he started descending into the Canyon.

Since I have hiked the Canyon before, I wanted Bucket to experience the spirit and challenge within the Canyon and to do it 'his' way.

While I waited on the rim of the Canyon for his return, I met a green gnome visiting from England.

He said he passed Bucket on the trail and they shared some water and traveling stories.

The gnome told me that Bucket was fine and he would see me soon.

Sometime later I saw Bucket walking around the last trail bend, his head held high and proud of his accomplishment of completing his strenuous hike within the majestic Grand Canyon.

Before leaving the edge of the Canyon we climbed a tree for one last look at this beautiful natural wonder.

Bucket said he will remember this adventure forever.

We both spotted the traveling English gnome hiking back down the trail.  Was he lost, or trying to rescue his traveling companions?

My final stop was at the mule barn.

I made a special reservation to ride one of the Canyon's world famous mules the next time I visit.

I picked Foxy in advance because she promised to be gentle and not walk the outside edge of the trail with me on her back.

We definitely bonded when

I told her she was the best looking girl in the corral and that I would bring her a bouquet of carrots upon my return.

Bucket will always have special memories from his Canyon trip but soon the memories of his sore feet will fade away.

NOTE:  Next month's article will be Bucket's last adventure with me in Sedona, Arizona known for its red rocks.

Don't miss the "good bye" episode! Who knows it could win an Academy Award!

Join me for another adventure next month!
