 Humphrey's Tales
August 2013

Let me introduce myself:

My name is Humphrey and I was born in 1993 in Flagstaff, Arizona USA.

Currently living in Cottonwood, AZ, with my Mom and Dad, by the way of Florida and Hawaii; don't ask!

Explained through my stories?

Maybe....

You'll just have to follow my tales each month.

Island of Bali

Bean and I heard Mom and Dad talking about going to the island of Bali.

Not to be left behind, we raced to our closet, packed a suitcase and dressed in our best tropical flowers and leis.

There is a tradition in the islands that if you wear a flower over your right ear which indicates you are single and available.

We hope the girls will notice!

We didn't ride very long in the car when Mom stopped.

I noticed a big building with a sign over the door reading 'From the Islands'.

It was a large warehouse filled with hand made imported items from the islands.

The pretty lady that met us at the door was from Bali. Her name is Melati, which means Jasmine; a beautiful gentle flower.

Melati smiled and invited us in to the warehouse.

Since we realized that we were not flying to Bali we tossed off our leis and looked around the warehouse for our next adventure.

Mom told us to "keep our hands at our sides and not to touch anything!"

Her last instructions to us were "no monkey business in here".

I remembered Mom's words.

I didn't use my hands, I used my legs and jumped into the center of the festive flags.

The flags had wire frames and they kept swinging back and forth.

Mom noticed the movement but Melati told her it was probably the wind from the open door.

Melati looked at me and smiled.

I was saved, thank you Melati.

I sat on the shelf for a long time with these ladies trying to imitate their kneeling positions but I kept falling over.

Mom had no clue where I was when she passed me but Melati saw me, smiled - another save!

Getting a little hungry while Mom and Dad were shopping, I asked Melati if she would order lunch.

'Chicken in a Basket'  with yummy pieces of fried chicken with French fries sounds good but this is what she served me!

Somewhere between Bear language and Bali language there was a misunderstanding.

After lunch I discovered this spider sitting very still waiting to attack me.

Being brave I approached slowly and he still was not moving.

I moved closer and closer until I could look into his eyes.

He was made of wood!

Quickly I jumped on the spider's back and then screamed "ATTACK" just as Mom was walking by.

Mom did not find the humor in my words and I was sent to the car immediately.

The hot August sun beamed through the closed car windows.

My fur was drenched with sweat. Was I doomed for being baked alive?

Suddenly the car door opened and I saw a bottle of cold water rolling on the seat.

Was this a mirage?

Or, did Melati come to my rescue once again?

Regardless, on my next visit to the warehouse I will bring her flowers and I WILL bring my own lunch.

.

Join me for another adventure next month!
